I grew up in Hertfordshire before studying at Bristol Vet School qualifying in 1994. I was much influenced by the ‘James Herriot’ generation and initially ‘cut my teeth’ as a mixed vet with plenty of farm and some equine work, alongside the smallies in Gillingham, North Dorset. Wanting to improve my small animal skills, I took a maternity leave cover job in the bright lights of Bournemouth where I met Sam and have never left the area since.
A stint back with farm animals in Wimborne followed, before I settled at Hillside Vets in Corfe Mullen until January 2019 when the practice was sold to a corporate. I’ve spent the best part of the last two years working as a locum vet in the South of England, whilst planning the birth of our exciting new independent practice, Vetsmiths with Sam in late 2020.
I’m married to Sam, co-director of Vetsmiths, and we have a teenage son (and Saturday receptionist) Barnaby.
When I was growing up I wanted to be … it was a toss-up between a Marine Biologist (partly because I thought it sounded pretty impressive) and a vet. The vet won!
