With effect from Monday, 10 June 2024 it will be law for all cats over the age of 20 weeks to be microchipped
New legislation has been passed and if your cat is found without a microchip, you will have 21 days to ensure they have one implanted, or you could face a fine of up to £500.
Microchipping is a safe and simple procedure and is the quickest way to ensure you are reunited with your cat should they go missing.
Unlike collars or tags, which can fall off or be removed, a microchip provides permanent identification.
Your cat can be scanned by vets, rescue centres, dog wardens and any other organisation which is likely to encounter stray animals using a universal microchip scanner to identify the animal and the owner.
If you’re unsure whether your cat has been microchipped, contact your vet who will be able to tell you/scan your cat.
If not, get your cat booked in for a procedure that takes less than five minutes giving you full piece of mind, as well as avoiding any unnecessary fines.

A reminder
Another thing to remember is that if you move house, change your mobile number, or email address, it’s important to up-date your personal details.
This way the data base will be correct if your cat does go walkabout.
